'Prasad' is an offering made to the Lord, the remnants of which are distributed among people for their consumption and purification. The word can be broken down into the phrase 'Prabhu (God) ka sakshad darshan', meaning 'mercy of the Lord'. Therefore, people who know the significance of prasad (essentially devotees) are very eager to take it. Since it has a highly purifying effect, it has been recommended in the Vedas that prasad should be consumed not only by devotees, but should also be distributed to the masses for their spiritual well-being.

Srila Prabhupada's books, lectures, conversations and letters offer a comprehensive presentation of this essential subject as seen in the Vaniquotes Prasadam category. An introduction from his books is given below in the following 8 quotes.
