Prabhupada Memories

Interview 01

Stoka Krishna: When I was head of the gurukula in Dallas, one afternoon it turned dark as night, and the wind started howling and blowing hard. For fifteen minutes there was an incredible storm, and afterwards we went into the courtyard of the school to find that a huge tree was leaning on the wall against one of the buildings. Although I was young, I had fairly large responsibilities, and I felt myself capable of making a decision. I brought a professional to check the tree and he told me that the roots were not in good shape and the tree needed to be cut down. So, I immediately contracted to have the tree cut down. Several weeks later Srila Prabhupada arrived, the story was related to him, and he wanted to know which fool had made this decision. I immediately came forward and took my instructions. What I later learned was that Prabhupada was the consummate business person and that I should have gotten two or three different quotes and found the truth rather than proceed as I did.
