Ekanath das Remembers Srila Prabhupada

Prabhupada Memories

Interview 01

Ekanatha: During guru-puja in Bombay, the devotees were offering flowers and paying obeisances when I decided to act so-called humbly. When I circled my flowers before His Divine Grace, as is normally done, I deliberately avoided eye contact with Srila Prabhupada and within my mind I loudly declared myself to be a fool and rascal, not deserving to be there. After I paid my dandavats and walked back to my spot, a devotee elbowed me and said, “Did you see that?” I said, “See what?” “Srila Prabhupada gave you a gigantic smile.” When I heard that, I became embarrassed, because I understood that Srila Prabhupada had read my mind. Even though I lacked seriousness, he had accepted my offering.

Ekanatha: When he passed that one particular tree, it had quite a lot of foliage on it; and that morning there were a lot of birds in that tree, and they were making racket like anything. It was very noisy to the extent that you couldn’t really hear what you were saying, it was very noisy. Then Prabhupada stopped and looked at the tree and pointed his cane towards the tree and he said, “They are discussing Krishna-katha.” We were all looking, “What?” And then Prabhupada turned around and he kept walking. And we were all…“Really?” Prabhupada was quite serious.
