Jaya Hari das Remembers Srila Prabhupada

Following Srila Prabhupada

Interview DVD 11

Jaya Hari: One of the things Srila Prabhupada did in the early days, which the devotees really didn’t do too much of, and that was to make contact with his fellow nationals. Obviously in London there was a very, very large prominent Hindu community who had never heard of the Hare Krishna Movement at that time. I think Srila Prabhupada’s physical presence, him being an Indian as well, opened up a lot of doors to the Indian Hindu community who might not have otherwise accepted the Hare Krishna Movement simply because they would have been skeptical in thinking, “Oh, what are these Americans or Europeans practicing this for?” But when they met Srila Prabhupada, their minds were changed completely. So if you had a devotee like Ksirodaksayi Visnu and his wife and his sons, they didn’t live in the temple. But they lived in north London in a house which had Deities in it, and it showed that you could practice Krishna consciousness outside of the temple environment. You could do it anywhere in fact.
