Ksudi das Remembers Srila Prabhupada

Prabhupada Memories

Interview 01

Ksudi: On March 2nd, 1972, after Srila Prabhupada had laid the cornerstone for Mayapur, we went into his room, and I said, “Srila Prabhupada, I am going to Africa now. I hope this gives me an opportunity to increase my service to you.” Srila Prabhupada said, “Service to Lord Chaitanya, service to Lord Chaitanya, service to Lord Chaitanya.” When I was in Africa alone because the other devotees had left, Srila Prabhupada wrote me, “I am very pleased at the responsibility you’ve taken to spread Krishna consciousness in South Africa at such a young age.” It made me feel connected to Prabhupada and the Movement even though I was two miles from any neighbors and 2,000 miles from any devotees. Prabhupada also said, “I am praying that you will have the strength and enthusiasm to carry on this mission.” Somehow or other I had that, even though I was nineteen years old and alone. Today my prayer is, “Please, Prabhupada, pray to Krishna that I may have the strength and enthusiasm to carry out whatever my mission is.”
