"This mastership competition is going on life after life, sometimes as human being, sometimes as animal, sometimes as fish, aquatics, sometimes as demigod, bird. This is the whole material situation. And the difficulty is that we cannot become master, but on account of our false ambition that 'I shall become master,' we are becoming servants of material nature. We are acting in a certain way to become master, creating a situation, mentality, and at the time of death, when this body finishes, the mind absorbed in that mastership idea takes me to another body according to my ambition. So I become again manifest in different body to exhibit my mastership; another chapter begins."

Nectar Drops from Srila Prabhupada
Dayānanda: People are working very hard for money, and they're very materialistic.
Prabhupāda: That is everywhere in the eastern part of the world. They are after money.
Dayānanda: And the foreigners who come here also, they are materialistic also.
Prabhupāda: Everywhere materialistic. Manuṣyāṇāṁ sahasreṣu kaścid yatati siddhaye (BG 7.3). Spiritualistic means siddhi, perfection. Who cares for perfection? Bring money and enjoy. That's all. Who cares? They do not know what is perfection. They think that you get money, live comfortably as far as possible, then after death everything's finished. Is it not?
Ātreya Ṛṣi: Yes, Śrīla Prabhupāda.
Prabhupāda: This is the philosophy. Who cares to know that there is life after death and better life, better planet, better world? This is not at all good; it is full of miseries. They are driving all day, car, but they do not think it is tiresome. They think it is pleasure.

"Gold, either in Iran or in India, gold is gold. You cannot say 'Iranian gold' or 'Indian gold'. That is not possible. Similarly, when you say 'Iranian spiritual culture' and 'Indian spiritual culture', the common point is spiritual culture. Spiritual culture is one. It cannot be Iranian, Indian, or anywhere belonging to some sycophant. Just like this moon. This moon is now on Iran. But that does not mean it's Iranian moon. Or the sun, it does not mean Iranian sun. Moon is one. Either in India or in Iran, the moon is moon. You cannot say 'Iranian moon' or 'Indian moon'. So spiritual culture is one, and material culture is one."

Prabhupāda: All these members of the United Nations, everyone is thinking in the bodily concept, 'I am American', 'I am Indian', 'I am Chinese'. So how there will be unity? There cannot be. That is we are proposing, that don't think in the bodily concept of life. Brahma-bhūtaḥ prasannātmā na śocati (BG 18.54): that we are teaching. But they are thinking they have gone to the United Nation, but they are keeping themselves as dogs. There cannot be any peace. They must go on barking against one another. That's all.
Nava-yauvana: They are thinking that they have to protect their so-called interest.
Prabhupāda: So the dog is also thinking. From three miles he begins to bark, 'Why you are coming here? Don't come. I am protecting my interest'. That mentality is there in the dog; so how you are greater than the dog?

"Just like a child wants to do something. The father says, 'Don't do it', I have said several times. Reluctantly, 'All right, do it'. I have given this example of my practical experience in 1925 or '26 when my son was two years old. There was a table fan, 'I would like to touch it'. And I said, 'No, don't touch'. This is child. So, but it's a child. He again tried to touch it. So there was a friend, he said, 'Just slow the speed and let him touch'. So I did it, slowed the speed and he touched—tung! Then he would not touch. You see? So this sanction was given, 'Touch it', reluctantly. Now he gets experience and I ask him, 'Touch again?'. 'No.' So this sanction. All of us who have come to this material world, it is like that. Reluctantly. Therefore God comes again to inform these rascals that 'Now you have tried so much. Better give up this, come to Me again'. Sarva-dharmān parityajya (BG 18.66). Sanction was given, certainly, and he has experience, very bitter, but still he won't... This is obstinacy. Dog's mentality."

"People are giving me credit that I have done miracles, but my miracle is that I carried the message of Caitanya Mahāprabhu: yāre dekha tāre kaha 'kṛṣṇa'-upadeśa (CC Madhya 7.128). So this is the secrecy. So any one of you, you can become guru. It is not that I am an extraordinary man, an extraordinary god coming from some mysterious place. It is not that—it is very simple thing. Caitanya Mahāprabhu says that yāre dekha tāre kaha kṛṣṇa'-upadeśa. So I request you, follow the Caitanya Mahāprabhu's instruction that you also, you become a guru at your home. It is not that you have to make a gigantic show of becoming guru. The father has to become guru, the mother has to become guru. Actually, in the śāstra it is said one should not become father, one should not become mother if he does not become a guru to his children."

"Either you engage your activities, your mind, your words in the service of Kṛṣṇa. Or out of three, at least two, at least one. Then your life is successful. Kṛṣṇa is so kind that this simple activity doesn't require..., nobody requires a very high standard education to understand Kṛṣṇa or to advance in Kṛṣṇa consciousness. Very simple thing. Man-manā bhava mad-bhakto mad-yājī māṁ namaskuru (BG 18.65). Here is Kṛṣṇa Deity. You see every day and think of Him. It is very easy. As soon as you become practiced to see the Deity, the impression is within your mind. So you can think of Kṛṣṇa, man-manā. And because you come to the temple and always see Kṛṣṇa and His daily program, then you become a bhakta. Man-manā bhava mad-bhakto. Mad-yājī, you worship Kṛṣṇa. Whatever you have got, little patram puṣpam phalam toyam (BG 9.26), just try to offer. And at last just offer respectful obeisances. Then you become perfect. You become eligible to go back home, back to Godhead. Very simple thing."

"Suppose you have got good bank balance, nice house and everything, good society, friendship, relative... But at any moment death will come and kick you out. What you can do? Mṛtyuḥ sarva-haraś cāham (BG 10.34). Death will come and will take everything, what you have got. Finished. And he will make you a dog. Now bark. (laughter) How can you stop it? Prakṛteḥ kriyamāṇāni guṇaiḥ karmāṇi (BG 3.27). You have practiced how to bark in the Legislative Assembly, now go and become a dog and go on barking: yow, yow, yow. (laughter) This is going on. They do not know what is life, what is the purpose of life."

"Every one of us, we are identifying with this body. Just like if somebody asks what you are, 'I am Mr. Such-and-such, I am Indian, I am this, I am that'. He is giving identification of the body. But that he is not. He's not this body. That is self-realization. That is the beginning of Bhagavad-gītā, dehino 'smin yathā dehe (BG 2.13)—two things—deha, this body, and asmin dehe, there is dehinaḥ, the owner of the body. That is the beginning of spiritual education. Because generally almost 99.9% people, they are thinking that 'I am this body'."
