Vikarma - an essential subject
Anything performed without the direction of the Vedas is called Vikarma, or unauthorized or sinful work. For example, modern scientists imagine that life can be produced from chemical combinations, and they are very busy trying to prove this in laboratories throughout the world, although no one in history has been able to produce the substance of life from material combinations. Another example is the general people, just to get money they are doing so many unlawful activities such as murder, thievery, assaulting, which are prohibited by the Vedas for their own sense gratification . Such activities are called vikarma. Therefore, one should always take direction from the Vedas to be saved from the reaction of work. Vikarma is enacted by the illusioned living entity simply for sense gratification, and thus such activities become hindrances on the path of self-realization.
