Doing arati is a form of worship to God. In the Hindu religion, people perform arati to the deities as a form of respect, and this is usually done by offering fire-lit ghee/oil wicks. It is said that just by witnessing arati of Lord Krishna (whether it be in the morning, afternoon and evening), one is extensively purified. Hence, performing arati of Lord Krishna has a positive and purifying effect. If one takes part in the arati process and is active in other aspects of devotional service, one can spiritually progress in leaps and bounds.
