What does a sampradaya mean? Srila Prabhupada says the meaning of this word is that the acarya of the sampradaya does not talk nonsense. He speaks whatever he has heard through the guru-parampara. An acarya is a guru and a very learned person of the Vedic literature, and due to his knowledge, he can become the head of a whole line of disciplic succession, training everyone in it to be well-versed in the scriptures. Therefore, it is critically important (for the advancement of the right spiritual teachings in the world) that the acarya and all the subsequent gurus under him be genuine. This would lead to the establishment of a good sampradaya, as is Vaishnava sampradaya, a part of which is the Krishna Consciousness movement.

Srila Prabhupada's books, lectures, conversations and letters offer a comprehensive presentation of this essential subject as seen in the Vaniquotes Sampradaya category. An introduction from his books is given below in the following 8 quotes.
