Pious and impious activities can bring about material happiness and distress, but there is no possibility of one becoming a pure devotee simply by acting piously or impiously. Bhakti, devotional service, means satisfying Kṛṣṇa. One does not need to waste time endeavoring for material happiness. It is best to use our time for development of Kṛṣṇa consciousness. That will give us real happiness. That is the instruction of Kṛṣṇa.

Srila Prabhupada's books, lectures, conversations and letters offer a comprehensive presentation of this essential subject as seen in the Vaniquotes Material Happiness category. An introduction from his books is given below in the following 12 quotes.
