Seva is defined as 'service'. People generally like to do service once in a while to 'be good and do good', and usually, these activities come under the branch of philanthropy. Among Hindus, everyone likes to take part is some form of seva, either to humanity or to God, but preferably to God as it yields some spiritual benefits for the person serving. Serving God (Lord Krishna) is the ultimate goal of the Krishna Conscious movement, wherein everyone is considered to be performing devotional service. The aim is that with regular practice of devotional service, one will finally achieve love for Godhead and thus, go back to God (as is prescribed in the Vedas).

Srila Prabhupada's books, lectures, conversations and letters offer a comprehensive presentation of this essential subject as seen in the Vaniquotes Seva category. An introduction from his books is given below in the following 3 quotes.
