Sravana is 'to hear'. In order to achieve love for God, it has been stated in the scriptures that one needs to be involved in the hearing process. This includes being in constant association with devotees and hearing the Lord Krishna's names being chanted. It has also been said that hearing is the first stage for attaining self-realization. To be able to progress further, one must, along with sravana, engage in the other 8 processes of devotional service as mentioned by Srila Prabhupada.

Srila Prabhupada's books, lectures, conversations and letters offer a comprehensive presentation of this essential subject as seen in the Vaniquotes Sravana category. An introduction from his books is given below in the following 8 quotes.
