Lecture BG 09.11-14 - New York
SP 108px mw10.png
vanipedia.org
Kṛṣṇa is within you. We have no realization. Due to my material conception of life, I have no realization. So you have to realize that Kṛṣṇa is there, and you have to purify yourself by service attitude. Then Kṛṣṇa will reveal. You will see, eye to eye.
SP 108px 029.png
vanipedia.org
Don't think yourself, that you are very man of knowledge. Because our knowledge is very limited, so we should not be puffed up with false thinking that I am very learned man. No. Just become a little gentle and submissive, and hear these messages from Kṛṣṇa. Sthāne sthitāḥ śruti-gatāṁ tanu-vāṅ-manobhiḥ. Tanu. Tanu means your body, and vāk means your words, and mana means mind. Just try to adjust your mind, your body, your words, and hear the Śrīmad-Bhagavad-gītā which is spoken by the Supreme Lord.
Lecture CC Madhya 20.125 - New York
Nectar Drops from Srila Prabhupada
"So the understanding is that we are eternally related with Kṛṣṇa. Forgetting this relationship, we are now engaged in relationship with this material body, which I am not. Therefore I have to revive my activities which is directly in relationship with Kṛṣṇa. And that is called to act in Kṛṣṇa consciousness. And development of that Kṛṣṇa consciousness will be ended in love of, full love of Kṛṣṇa. When we reach that stage, love of God, love of Kṛṣṇa, then we love everyone because Kṛṣṇa is everyone. Without coming to that central point, our love on the material conception of life—equality, fraternity, brotherhood—they're all simply cheating process. That is not possible."
661127 - Lecture CC Madhya 20.125 - New York
SP 108px 014.png
vanipedia.org
In the material platform, if you serve somebody, you will find tired, satiated. You won't like. But if you engage yourself in the service of Kṛṣṇa, you'll find yourself more energetic. You'll like to serve more and more. That is the test. If I feel tired, then that is material, and if I feel more encouraged, that means it is blessings of Kṛṣṇa.

1968 - November 27

Lecture BG 02.08-12 - Los Angeles
We Are Perplexed With These All Worldly Problems - 0435
05:10 minutes from a lecture on BG 02.08-12 in Los Angeles
SP 108px conv7.png
vanipedia.org
Actually, the land belongs to Kṛṣṇa, but these people, under illusion, claiming, "It is my land, it is my country," forgetting how long he shall belong to this country or this nation. That is called illusion. So this is our position. Without understanding our real position we are perplexed with these all worldly problems, which are all false. Janasya moho 'yam ahaṁ mameti. Moha, moha means illusion. This is the illusion.
Cheerful in all Cases and Interested Simply in Krishna Consciousness - 0436
04:29 minutes from a lecture on BG 02.08-12 in Los Angeles
SP 108px conv2.png
vanipedia.org
So far spirit soul is concerned, that is eternal. Even it appears to be dead, or with the death of this body, he does not die. So why one should be overwhelmed, "Oh, my father is dead, my such and such relative is dead," and crying? He's not dead. This knowledge one must have. Then he'll be cheerful in all cases and he'll be interested simply in Kṛṣṇa consciousness. There is nothing to be lamented for the body, either alive or dead.
Conchshell Is Considered Very Pure, Transcendental - 0437
06:36 minutes from a lecture on BG 02.08-12 in Los Angeles
SP 108px 013.png
vanipedia.org
If one can give evidence from the quotation of the Vedas, then it has to be accepted. Nobody can deny the Vedic evidence. That is the system. How it is so? Caitanya Mahāprabhu has given very nice example. That is in the Vedas. Just like we keep conchshell in the Deities' room. Conchshell is considered very pure, transcendental; otherwise, how we can keep before Deity and you blow conchshell? You offer water with conchshell. How you can offer? But what is this conchshell? The conchshell is the bone of an animal.
Cow Dung Dried and Burned into Ashes is used as Toothpowder - 0438
03:09 minutes from a lecture on BG 02.08-12 in Los Angeles
SP 108px 025.png
vanipedia.org
In Āyur-veda, cow dung dried and burned into ashes is used as toothpowder. It is very antiseptic toothpowder. Similarly, there are many things, many injunctions in the Vedas, which may apparently appear as contradiction, but they are not contradiction.
My Spiritual Master Found Me A Great Fool - 0439
05:03 minutes from a lecture on BG 02.08-12 in Los Angeles
SP 108px lect2.png
vanipedia.org
Caitanya Mahāprabhu, even not accepting Him as incarnation of Kṛṣṇa, if simply you accept Him as ordinary scholar or man, there was no comparison of His scholarship. But He said that "My spiritual master found Me a great fool." What is that meaning? That "A person, even in My position, always remains a fool before his spiritual master. That is good for him."
The Mayavadi Theory is that the Ultimate Spirit is Impersonal - 0440
04:29 minutes from a lecture on BG 02.08-12 in Los Angeles
SP 170px 066.png
vanipedia.org
The Māyāvādī theory is that the ultimate spirit is impersonal. Then how Kṛṣṇa can say that "Never there was a time when I, you, and all these persons never existed"? That means, "I existed as individual, you existed as individual, and all these persons who are before us, they existed as individuals. Never there was a time."
Krishna is the Supreme, and We Are Fragmental Parts - 0441
06:57 minutes from a lecture on BG 02.08-12 in Los Angeles
SP 108px 029.png
vanipedia.org
Bhagavad-gītā says that spirit cannot be fragmented. So if you say that by covering of māyā the spirit has become fragment, that is not possible. It cannot be cut. Just like if you cut one big piece of paper into small fragments, it is possible because it is matter, but spiritually it is not possible. Spiritually, eternally, the fragments are fragments, and the Supreme is Supreme. Kṛṣṇa is the Supreme, and we are fragmental parts. We are fragments eternally. These things are explained in Bhagavad-gītā in different places very nicely.
In Christian Theology, one Prays to God, 'Give us our Daily Bread' - 0442
08:02 minutes from a lecture on BG 02.08-12 in Los Angeles
SP 108px mw4.png
vanipedia.org
Just like in Christian theology, the individual goes to the church and prays God, "Give us our daily bread." Why he's asking God? Of course, this atheist class of men are now teaching them, "Where is bread? You are going to church. You come to us; we shall supply you bread." So this Vedic thought is there also. The Vedas say, eko bahūnāṁ vidadhāti kāmān. That supreme one eternal, He's supplying, He's maintaining all other individual eternals.
There is no Question of Impersonalism - 0443
04:25 minutes from a lecture on BG 02.08-12 in Los Angeles
SP 108px conv13.png
vanipedia.org
This voidism, impersonalism, they are artificial ways of negating the perplexing variegatedness of this material existence. That is the negative side only. That is not a positive side. A positive side is that, as Kṛṣṇa says, "After giving up this material tabernacle, one comes to Me."
SP 108px lect8.png

Immediately we cannot imitate serving gopis. That's a good idea that you shall serve gopi, but it will take time. Not immediately. Immediately we have to follow the rules and regulations and routine work.
Letter to Gopala Krishna written from Los Angeles
SP 108px 025.png

I am pleased to learn how you are spending your time in meditation with Lord Krishna and I request that continue to chant Hare Krishna so that Krishna will surely bestow all blessings upon yourself.

Letter to Manager of Lloyds Bank written from London
Letter to Pradyumna written from London
SP 108px conv7.png
vanipedia.org
Regarding your dismissal from the job, I think it is Krishna's indication that you are not meant for such kind of service. Now you can freely and completely engage yourself in Krishna's service as He has very kindly allotted to you in the matter of editing, transliterating and helping your wife in composing.

Letter to Jayapataka written from Bombay
SP 108px lect4.png

I quite approve your proposal that if the money is used for establishing Bombay center, the donors will not be encouraged. In that case you can open an account with the Central Bank of India in the name of ISKCON.

1971 - November 27

Letter to Abhirama written from Vṛndāvana
SP 170px 054.png
vanipedia.org
I am very pleased that your all efforts to spread Krishna Consciousness Movement are meeting with success. Krishna has given you this gift, how to present KC to the public in a very tasteful manner, so now just utilize that facility and your life will be perfect. Actually, because you have given your life to Krishna, you are already perfect. But it is just like the ocean, if you are swimming in it you may swim forever and not reach the shore. Similarly, there is no limit to the perfection of Krishna Consciousness.
Letter to Kirtiraja written from Vṛndāvana
SP 108px mw3.png
vanipedia.org
I want that you all my students shall very vigorously try for this book distribution. Do not hesitate to use your American and European brains to increase, that is Krishna's special gift to you, now use it.
SP 108px lett1.png
vanipedia.org
We have to be prompt and gracious in this business of mail-order books.
Letter to Lalita Kumar and Jambavati written from Vṛndāvana
SP 108px conv2.png
vanipedia.org
Try to attract these students with profuse prasadam and nice philosophy and they will appreciate more and more. Slow but sure, that is our motto—and class, not mass. So never mind some other Christian movements are getting many followers. The competition is beneficial for us. Everything is beneficial for Krishna consciousness if it is utilized properly. That is the art. Anything without substance will not last, so just demonstrate sincerely that we have got solid ground beneath us, not that we have only some sentiment, that's all.
SP 108px conv19.png
vanipedia.org
If the government is giving you money, why not use it for Krishna? Only thing we must avoid cheating them or falsely claiming something to get money. Then we are risking our very high reputation as pious people. But if they are willing to give us money and food, then of course we should accept.

1972 - November 27

Lecture BG 02.23 - Hyderabad
Spirit Soul is Impossible to be Measured by our Material Instruments - 0594
06:54 minutes from a lecture on BG 02.23 in Hyderabad
SP 108px mw10.png
vanipedia.org
Directly we cannot appreciate what is that spiritual fragment, particle, which is within this body. Because the length and breadth of that spirit soul is impossible to be measured by our material instruments, although the scientists say that we can measure it.
If You want Varieties You have to Take Shelter of a Planet - 0595
04:04 minutes from a lecture on BG 02.23 in Hyderabad
SP 108px 034.png
vanipedia.org
In the Brahman effulgence it is, simply being cin-mātra, simply spirit, there is no varieties of spirit. It is simply spirit. Just like the sky. The sky is also matter. But in the sky, there is no variety. If you want varieties, even in this material world, then you have to take shelter of a planet, either you come to the earthly planet or go to the moon planet or sun planet. Similarly, the Brahman effulgence is the glowing rays from the body of Kṛṣṇa.
The Spirit cannot be Cut into Pieces - 0596
04:30 minutes from a lecture on BG 02.23 in Hyderabad
SP 170px 059.png
vanipedia.org
We are thinking, the modern scientists, they are thinking that there cannot be any life in the sun globe. No. There is life. We get information from Vedic literature that there is life. There are also human beings like us. But they're made of fire. That's all.
We are Working Hard to Find out some Pleasure of Life - 0597
05:14 minutes from a lecture on BG 02.23 in Hyderabad
SP 108px 023.png
vanipedia.org
Because the spirit soul is part and parcel of Krsna, so by nature, he is joyful. He is seeking after joy. Every one of us, we are working so hard to find out some pleasure of life.
We cannot Understand How Great God is. That is our Folly - 0598
05:32 minutes from a lecture on BG 02.23 in Hyderabad
SP 108px 018.png
vanipedia.org
The frog is perpetually within the well, and if somebody informs him that there is another big span of water, Atlantic Ocean, he simply calculates that "It may be a little more than this well, little more than this well." But he cannot understand how great He is. So God is great. We cannot understand how great He is! That is our folly. We are simply calculating: "He may be one inch greater than me. Or one foot greater than me." That is mental speculation.
SP 108px 036.png
vanipedia.org
Kṛṣṇa consciousness is not so easy. You cannot have it unless you surrender yourself. So long you do not take the dust of the lotus feet of a devotee, niṣkiñcanānām, who has nothing to do with this material world—he's simply concerned with the service of the Lord—unless you are in touch with such a person, it is not possible to attain Kṛṣṇa consciousness. These are the statements of the śāstra.
We are not Prepared to Surrender, This is our Material Disease - 0600
04:10 minutes from a lecture on BG 02.23 in Hyderabad
SP 108px mw2.png
vanipedia.org
Unless you are prepared to surrender... That is a great difficult job for the materialistic person. Nobody wants to surrender. He wants to compete. Individually, person to person, family to family, nation to nation, everyone is trying to become the master. Where is the question of surrendering? There is no question of surrendering. So this is the disease. Therefore Kṛṣṇa demands that to cure this rascaldom, or most chronic disease, you surrender.
SP 170px 065.png
vanipedia.org
As Kṛṣṇa says, man-manā bhava mad-bhakto mad-yājī māṁ namaskuru (BG 18.65). So we are speaking the same thing. As it is stated in the Bhagavad-gītā. We don't misinterpret. We don't spoil the whole Bhagavad-gītā. We don't do this mischief. Sometimes people, they say, "Swamiji, you have done wonderful." But what wonderful? I am not a magician. My only credit is I have not spoiled the Bhagavad-gītā. I have presented as it is. Therefore it is successful.

1973 - November 27

Letter to Jayadharma written from New York
SP 108px conv16.png

Yes, the process is to give the very best to the Spiritual Master no matter what the cost. Just like you'll recall in the story of Krishna and Sudama at the Gurukula of their Spiritual Master, because they risked their life to carry out the order of their Guru Maharaj, they were blessed by him to gain eternal Knowledge.

1974 - November 27

Lecture SB 03.25.27 - Bombay
Nectar Drops from Srila Prabhupada
"Our main business is to serve Kṛṣṇa. In Vṛndāvana, in Goloka Vṛndāvana, somebody is serving Kṛṣṇa as His friend, cowherd boy. Somebody is serving Kṛṣṇa as gopī, as lover. Somebody is serving Kṛṣṇa as father and mother, Mother Yaśodā, Nanda Mahārāja. Somebody is Kṛṣṇa's friend as servant, as tree, as water, as flower, as land, as cows, as calf. So many ways. This is our business. But somehow or other we did not like to serve Kṛṣṇa. Therefore we have been put into the service of māyā in three modes of nature."

think 100 dollars is too much to pay for one pair of deities. Better you carve them from wood. In India the carvers have always used a wood bitter in taste, this keeps the worms from eating it, best is nim wood if such wood (bitter in taste) is available there then why not make Gaura Nitai from wood.

In the spiritual world there it appears that gopīs are dressed very nicely not for the purpose of her own satisfaction. They want to satisfy Kṛṣṇa, that "If I dress nicely, Kṛṣṇa will be pleased." So that is prema. And as soon as... In the material world, nobody wants to please anyone. He wants to please himself, his senses. That is kāma. We should understand what is kāma and what is prema.
